The Student Knowledge Base is available to address as many needs as the Educational Technology Services is capable of handling.  This page exists to help direct you to any other resources available online that might be able to better assist you with any issues you might be having.

Classroom Services

Classroom Services is Pitt’s central resource for instructional technology.  They offer a variety of services to the University community, which include delivering technology to classrooms, lecture video recording, long-term equipment loans, and more.

Teaching Support

Teaching Support support effective teaching for faculty, instructors, and teaching assistants (TA) throughout Pitt.  Teaching Support provides consultations, instructional design, and workshops for face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses.

TA Services

TA Services offers forms and resources and information to prepare graduate student instructors to meet their teaching goals and responsibilities from the first day of class through the job search process.  TA Services hosts workshops to help TAs develop their skills to enhance their teaching.  These workshops are open to all faculty, staff, and students at the university.

University of Pittsburgh Testing Center (UPTC)

The University of Pittsburgh Testing Center (UPTC) is a free walk-in service for students currently enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh. We administer computer- and paper-based examinations for distance education courses, make-up exams for on-campus courses, testing through the Office of Disability Resources & Services, and can assist with off-campus testing when needed.

Please note that all makeup exams for Finals Week will be administered on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 19-20 (after Finals Week), not during Finals Week (Dec. 12-17).

Office of Measurement and Evaluation of Teaching (OMET)

The Office of Measurement & Evaluation of Teaching (OMET) conducts Teaching Surveys on behalf of instructors each term.  Instructors value your responses and you are encouraged to complete each survey you receive.  You can contact OMET (Monday – Friday from 8:30am – 5:00pm) at (412)-624-6440 or email them at omet@pitt.edu with questions or comments.

Accessibility Resources

The Center for Instructional Development and Distance Education offers a number of Accessibility Resources:

  • Offers closed caption decoders and assistive listening devices to the University community at no cost.
  • Installs and supports display devices in classrooms and lecture halls that open and display captioned content.
  • Installs (within 24 hours) assistive listening devices at the request of an instructor, student, or Disability Services.
  • Provides copies of Dragon Naturally Speaking 10 for loan.
  • Assists faculty and students with the creation of captions for instructional videos.
  • Licenses and supports streaming media applications that feature captioning.
  • Support for blind, deaf and other users with disabilities.

Software Training

The Student Knowledge Base contains support documentation for Blackboard, Panopto Video, and Turnitin, as well as various video editing software such as iMovie, Windows Movie Maker, and Adobe Premiere Pro.  For more in-depth software training on these, or other software not included in this list, Educational Technology Services recommends using Lynda.com.  Simply sign into Lynda.com using your Pitt username and password following the guidelines outlined in our article about how to access Lynda.com.  Once you are logged into Lynda.com, you can search for the software you are interested in to find in-depth tutorials on all different kinds of software.

Registrar’s Office

The Office of the University Registrar is an office focused on providing the highest levels of student, faculty, and staff service and maintaining the highest level of academic records integrity and security.  They are the official source for all student academic records.  They oversee a number of functions.  These functions include the monitoring of the end-of-term grading process, processing of grade changes, enrollment, publication of semester course offerings and final examination schedules, classroom scheduling, enrollment and degree verification, transcript processing, ad hoc reporting and fulfilling many types of requests for student information.

Students that wish to add or drop a class can contact the Registrar’s Office.  If you know that you are registered in a course, but are not seeing the course in CourseWeb, it is possible that your instructor has not activated or made the course available in CourseWeb.  Students should contact their instructor to verify their enrollment status, and the status of their CourseWeb course.

Pitt People Finder

The Pitt People Finder resource allows you to find people at the University of Pittsburgh.  Enter the username or the person’s full name or last name to perform the search.  You can view details of the person by selecting the name link.

Placement exams are handled by each individual department.  The main departments that handle placement exams are:

Tutoring

Tutoring is handled through each department individually.  The Dietrich School of Arts & Sciences’ Academic Resource Center (ARC) offers a variety of tutoring services. You can contact the ARC at (412)-648-7920.
